Plastic bags made from shells of shrimp, crab and plants

Recently, American scientists have found chitin in shrimp and crab shells combined with plant cellulose to create a material that is durable, flexible, transparent and biodegradable. Maybe this is one of the feasible solutions in finding new materials to replace traditional materials often used to produce plastic bags and plastic bottles.

Eat shrimp, crabs, don't waste shells

This may be a seemingly ridiculous advice, but for American scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology, led by Dr. J. Carson Meredith, this advice is really valuable. Because of that, shrimp, crab shells, some fungi or insects have shown them the real value in finding new solutions in the overall environmental protection.

From crustaceans such as shrimp, American scientists have discovered chitin, and then combined with cellulose-rich plant bark to get synthetic resin from these two materials. Thereby, the group of scientists confirmed that it is possible to replace all plastic bags from PET plastic today into bags that can be easily decomposed in the natural environment after being used.

In addition, when compared with other properties of PET material - industrial plastic is often used to produce packaging, plastic bags, bottles, jars, food containers ... then this new material is available. better air permeability so food storage will be longer. “The material that we create shows that it is about 67% better than oxygen to PET, so in theory, this material can retain the freshness of the food. longer, "said Dr. Meredith.
